WOULD YOU BE MY LOCAL THEMED VALENTINE?
Feb 5, 2018
Some may argue that Valentine's Day is too commercialized. A holiday created by marketers who play on peoples sentiment and guilt. And while that may be true, I do believe in the premise of showing somebody through actions or items, that you care about them. And I know I sure like it when my hubby remembers me with my favourite chocolates or a nice card.
I know this isn’t a new idea, but I think its a good one. What if we all looked to local businesses for gifts this year. Here are a couple of ideas that I came up with. If you have any to add, please do. Make this year a new tradition of local experiences and show the love!
- A bottle of New Brunswick Maple Syrup with a hand-made gift card for a three course breakfast complete with clean-up.
- A bowl from a local potter that you can fill with some home-made cookies you either made yourself or purchased from a local baker.
- Tickets to a local art Gallery with a stop in a local wine bar for a cocktail before.
- Personalized his and her t-shirts done at a local decorating shop with a card good for one complete “do nothing” day where you will take care of the entire day so your loved one can just relax. One shirt can say “do nothing today” and the other “do everything today”.
With a little imagination, and fun in mind - there are many things you can do that will support local businesses, and show someone how much you care about them. Lets start some new traditions this year.
